ART

We have been in our house for 5 1/2 years now so I am itching to change things up. Of course this has also been the year of replacing/buying household stuff. Being a homeowner can be expensive! In the past 18 months we have finished a room in our basement, put in cupboards and counters down there, retiled both bathrooms, bought a new water softener, freezer, fridge/freezer, put a deck on and a new patio. This spring we will probably be replacing our furnace/AC and hopefully not have to replace the dishwasher until next year :)
Now I am in the process of finding rugs/art etc that I want up. I am not a big decorater, but I do like to have something on an occasional wall!

This is the newest art in our bedroom. I love it but Noah claims that since I chose this and he has to look at it every morning that the next thing we buy for a wall gets to be his choice. We will see.

My mom painted this for the boy's room. It is the pirates who don't do anything!

My mom also painted this years ago. It is in one of our bathrooms.

I love stuff like this.

Every house needs a litte Van Gogh. My mom is a fan of Van Gogh and Deacon can pick out Van Gogh paintings now- he has figured out the stylistic qualities of them.

We picked this one out together. Noah likes it because it is "sceney" enough and I like it because it is wide and because it uses enough different brush strokes to add a little interest.

I had the wall behind these 2 pictures painted red last week. This kind of art is what I like- no pictures, no scenes,- just objects and shapes.

We bought this on our honeymoon at the North Shore. Once again, more Noah's style but I like it too.
Anyway, I am on the lookout for some different things for some bigger walls, and for my bathrooms! Let me know if you have seen any fun ideas lately!

I'd love to see a picture of your red wall now. We have no color on our main floor and I'd love to paint (in living room I want to do two of the walls a deep red). Paul has NO desire to paint, he'd be perfectly fine with cream walls with marks on them forever, but it's probably going to be necessary in the near future (in his opinion) to remodel the chicken coop. I feel overwhelmed by the task of painting as we have vaulted ceilings.

I enjoyed your last post and am excited to hear whether you guys have a boy or a girl. Will you post a pregnant pic, so I can guess? I'm pretty accurate. I've guessed about 10 this year and haven't been wrong yet (ha!)

Are the boys excited about a baby or do they have too many galaxies to conquer at this point?

Rachel,
I will post some pictures of the main floor. We have slightly vaulted ceilings too. I painted in there when we first moved in, but this time we hired Todd Tallaksen to do it. Noah hates to paint and I felt overwelmed by the prospect.

I did have Noah take some pictures...they are still on the camera from a week ago :) I will get him to upload everything tonight. I am smaller with this one I think than the boys (37 weeks Friday!) but I have also been exercising rather maniacly. Still no maternity pants!

This ones heart rate has been consistently lower than the other three, but other than that my pregnancies have been really similar.

I was dilated to a 1 already at my 35 week check (never had that happen before!) so I am hoping that means the kid will arrive with no induction!

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of Caleb!

I really like the art you picked out for your bedroom. Where did you find it? We don't have a lot of art up in our house, mainly because I'm picky, but I think black and white photographs make great art and can be very personal too. Also, IKEA has some simple wooden frames that are meant to be covered with fabric and I'm planning on doing that in my office, because fabric is so beautiful and textural (and also sound absorbent!) Only problem is they've been out of stock at the Twin Cities IKEA for 6 months now, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get some soon.

Elise,

I got it at Kohls. My mom bought it and I saw it at her house. I didn't want to copy her necessarily, but I am picky too- and mine is in my bedroom so it is not like people will see it in both of our living rooms :)Actually, now that I think about it, I don't even know where she put hers. Maybe she never hung it up.

I am actually planning to try to use some more artistic family/kid/vacation shots as art. It is hard for me to do because I am not into pictures of family etc all over the house. But Noah likes that. I think if we do more black and white/artistic kind of things we will both be happy.

We will see when all that gets done :) But hey, I am in full blown nesting mode so maybe soon!

Love your artwork. However, I think Deacon has one up on me as I would not recognize Van Goh's style at all if I saw it!
